Roll Tide in Costa Rica

FCA Chaplain Dr. Gary Cramer took Alabama athletes to Costa Rica for a week over Spring Break, combining service and sport.

For Cramer, the trip’s purpose was to “accelerate the discipleship process in the lives of student athletes with regards to how they view the world and what it means to be intentional about sharing Christ in their spheres of influence.”

They hosted football clinic for players in Costa Rican men’s football leagues, as well as clinics for an orphanage and at-risk boys. Football creates a common bond that bridges an introduction to the love of Jesus. The group also visited Nicaraguan refugees and distributed bags of food.

Enthusiasm from Costa Ricans participating in drills and practice reminded Alabama athletes as to why they first felt passion for their sport, and reinforces how athletics is an integral tie to sharing the message of Jesus Christ.
